A new birdwatching destination in the Western Mediterranean
One of France’s richest ranges of birdlife…

The Narbonnaise regional park is situated on the southern French coast on the western Mediterranean flyway and is part of one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots.
With a particularly wide range of habitats the park hosts one of France’s richest ranges of birdlife, with over 40% of the Western Palearctic species observed here (residents, seasonal visitors or on migration).
Find out more below: watch a short film to discover the varied habitats and species, download the Smartphone app to help you plan a birdwatching trip to the Narbonnaise or read Bill Oddie’s article… but most importantly, come and find out for yourself why the Narbonnaise is one of Europe’s most exciting new birdwatching destinations!
A short film
This short film takes you on a journey from the Leucate headland – on the southern edge of the park, to the banks of the river Aude in the north, via coastal lagoons, salt-pans, rocky garrigue-covered hills, Mediterranean river gorges, salt-marshes and flooded pasture.
Discover these diverse habitats and some of the birds you can see in the Narbonnaise regional park…

Birdwatching trips
The Narbonnaise regional park has partnered with Birding Languedoc and local travel agency Envie de Voyages, to bring you a series of small-group fully guided trips.
Weekends, short breaks and week-long trips are all available, with access from a number of regional UK airports. Most trips are centred on the Narbonnaise regional park but a few are twin-based trips visiting other regional parks nearby.
So why not try the Spring Mediterranean Birding and Wine, a long-weekend trip (February to October) or the twin-base Autumn trip taking in the Narbonnaise and the Catalan Pyrenees regional parks?
Local birding organisations
The local birding organisations listed below have programmes of half-day and full day guided birding trips. Many of these are free and part of a county-wide programme called “Decouvrons Ensemble les Espaces Naturels de l’Aude”. Some of the guides speak English and most trips are family friendly.
Contact them or visit their websites to see what trips are scheduled. You can also enquire about private guiding or to set-up a tailor-made trip for your group.
In partnership with the Narbonnaise regional park, Birding Languedoc offers a range of small group fixed-date trips in English.
